![]() The only worlds that sort of missed the mark were the volcano world and cave world. Out of all the worlds, my favourites were the beach world with its pirate theme/aquatic hazards, the forest world with its focus on climbing vegetational platforms, and the factory with all of its machine based obstacles. ![]() It all feels like a beautiful island/jungle paradise for the Kongs, that needs saving from the corrupting influence of the invading Tikis. In DKCR, these levels and worlds appear lush, full of life and they really capture that outdoorsy nature vibe. If your game is going to use standard videogame world themes, then those worlds should at least look pretty and feel great for the player to experience. The levels of DKCR consistently feel unique, challenging and satisfying to overcome.Īlthough the themes of the eight worlds are pretty generic, the levels themselves are rich with detail, creativity and beautiful aesthetics. Some of my favourite levels had sequences such as being hunted by a kraken, finding shelter from tidal waves, outrunning a disgusting swarm of ants, or exploring a factory full of strange contraptions. The level design in this game is some of my favourite among platformers. Levels are packed with traps, treacherous enemy placements and demanding platforming sequences. With the exception of the strange blowing mechanic, movement feels smooth, quick and weighty. You will jump, roll, climb, blow, and pound your way through the world. In DKCR, you’ll travel through eight harrowing worlds as Donkey Kong with Diddy Kong being available in certain situations as a partner who can double your healthbar and allow you to briefly float in midair. However, the small screen of the standard 3DS is a small downside, requiring the player to focus intensely given the difficulty and the detailed environments. It naturally ends up being one of the prettiest games on the 3DS with its detail and lovely backgrounds. ![]() The difficulty is quite surprising for a Nintendo game but it is incredibly refreshing, adding to the experience in many ways.ĭKCR is easily one of the finest displays of 2.5D, with its features and lovely, vibrant visuals. The game is a fast paced, action packed, brutal 2.5D platformer with some wonderfully designed levels, brimming with detail, collectibles, and fun mechanics.
